Hey Everyone,
Last night was disappointing to miss the Flyers/Canucks over. Sam Ersson played lights out right out of the gate keeping the Canucks off the board on their first two power plays. The Canucks looked great and it could have easily been 3-0 early. We will move forward. The disappointment came in not getting Vegas at lines we wanted. They won, and their team total hit but I was weary on the 3.5. Tonight is our first full slate so I will be touching on most of the games with what I expect. I implore you all to pick apart the article to make plays for yourselves that I’m not. You should be able to piece together parlays, round robins, anything else you want to have action on based on my expectations and leans! So far the breakdowns have been very on point, I am just playing the start of the season more selectively. You don’t have to.
What to watch for:
I don’t see the Utah Hockey Club opening their season 3-0 beating both the Isles and Rangers. The Rangers are one of my teams to win it all and their home opener will be a tough environment for Utah to come into. The Rangers should out pace and play Utah and Connor Ingram shouldn’t be much of a match for the Rangers offense.
I really want to play Toronto here but I’m not willing to lay -190 or play their 3.5 team total. What will be different this year is staying away from lines I truly believe are out of reach instead of playing them and hoping we hit. I would much rather miss out on this matchup than plan either line and lose. I really want to be on Toronto’s offense with Joel Blomqvist in net for Pittsburgh, so unless we can get their team total live better than 3.5 I will be skipping it.
New Jersey and Washington is a matchup we always play the over in and hit so I am continuing with that trend. If the over misses tonight we will evaluate why and determine if we will continue with this trend. We have hit over 5.5 in 9 of the last 10 matchups.
Buffalo has lost 10 of their last 11 matchups against the Panthers. So why will we be on them tonight? Spencer Knight gets his first start since 2/14/23. Knight spent time in the NHLPA player assistance program for severe OCD. He’s ready to get back between the pipes but there should be some nerves for him. The Panthers are also without Sacha Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk. I’m going to take a stab on Buffalo’s offense coming out firing tonight. They still have big name scorers up front with Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch. Dylan Cozens has a 30 goal season under his belt and Jason Zucker is a vet. I’m going to splash their 2.5 team total tonight.
Ottawa looked very good in their opener against Florida and with Linus Ullmark giving them the confidence they need in net, I see Ottawa taking a big step forward this year. I will continue to target Sam Montembeault and play the Sens team total here at 3.
Nashville had the biggest offseason of the NHL and will look to get their first win tonight. Detroit is coming off a really bad loss to Pittsburgh. Detroit is a team everyone expects will take the step that I believe Ottawa will and I don’t expect Detroit to have a good year. Cam Talbot is not a good goaltender in my opinion and I expect Nashville’s offense to be on display tonight. Detroit’s defense was bottom 10 last year so I don’t expect Talbot to get any additional help from them. Getting Nashville’s team total at 3 is a gift in my opinion and I will be making our first five unit bet of the season on it. I do expect Detroit to get on the board so I will be splashing a mini ladder on the game over as well. This is our game to watch tonight.
Columbus is a scary place. This is the second player death from Columbus in a few years with Mattias Kivlenieks passing a few years earlier in an offseason firework accident. Johnny Gaudreau lost his life this off season. Boone Jenner is out for the year as well with an injury. Colorado should put on a clinic against then but the 3.5 team total is -190. Lets see if we can get it live a few minutes in.
