Good morning, everyone,
I apologize for the lack of depth in the plays over the past ten days. I had emergency dental surgery last week and then broke a fever from the surgery. We are only three days into the first round, and one series has yet to begin. MLB has been on fire, and the first three days of the NHL have been great, minus the over in the Capitals game yesterday, and I look forward to keeping that momentum going. We have four games on the slate tonight:
New Jersey vs. Carolina:
Without Jack Hughes, the New Jersey Devils don’t stand much of a chance, explaining the -1.5 Carolina Series play. Carolina lucked out with this matchup and should give them an easy path to the second round. We have exhausted a lot of time and dollars into Carolina futures and have one again this season, but I am ready to jump ship. For Carolina to get to the cup this year they will need to go through Washington, who may be the easiest of matchups going forward, before eventually running into Toronto, Florida/Tampa, and the Western Conference winner. I can tell you now that we will continue to ride Carolina over the Devils in the first round before skipping the game by game’s in the second round if they meet the Capitals. If we run into a Capitals/Hurricanes second round we will automatically be playing the over 5.5 series and lay low on the game by games. I would expect that series to go a minimum of six with a potential 50/50 winner in a game 7. I am not confident on either team to pick a side in that series which further strengthens the 5.5 series play. I expect Carolina to continue the pressure in game two and get to the three goal mark and see a similar outcome like in game 1.
Senators vs. Maple Leafs
Unfortunately we missed the series bets but we had a great game one outcome on the game over. The Leafs should dominate this series and win in four or five. We can still jump on the 4-0/4-1 exact outcome but our best bet is to continue riding the individual game overs. The Leafs are still the Leafs but they are very undervalued this year and portrayed as a worse team than they are. Toronto is too talented and skilled for Ottawa to compete in a seven game series and I expect Toronto to continue to lead the scoring.
Florida vs. Tampa Bay
There are too many significant injuries for me to make a brash play on Game 1. This game is best screened live. Florida is still without Aaron Ekblad and Matthew Tkachuk and have looked far from themselves. Tampa Bay looks like a better team than they have the past two seasons since their Cup runs and I’m not ready to count them out. I’m surprised Florida isn’t favored more on the series line. I would have liked to take Tampa Bay if they were +160 or better. Let’s see what happens tonight and get Tkachuk comes back before we dive in.
