Last night went pretty much as expected, minus the Islanders. Boston came out as expected and rebounded nicely from their opening night embarrassment in Florida. Buffalo started the season 0-3 and the game was low scoring so I am happy with fading that game. Toronto went into New Jersey and trounced the Devils in the first period getting us the three goals we were on. I was a bit surprised they only scored one more the rest of the game but the total hit and Keefe lost his first game against his former team. I am glad we were off the Panthers. I don’t regret not being on Ottawa as this was a game I wanted to screen both sides. Linus Ullmark is going to make a difference for Ottawa this year and likely see them in the playoffs. He has been a major piece the Sens have been missing. The big miss was on the Isles defense. Varlamov looked worse than I expected with a few goals I feel he could have had. The Isles blew multiple leads especially one with three minutes left in the game. If they hold on we sweep the night. Pittsburgh and Detroit was goals galore and my only regret was not laddering this game pregame.
Tonight has a four game slate and the plays will be light pregame.
What to watch for:
Philly has two big rookies starting for them; Matvei Michkov & Jett Luchanko. WIth Carter Hart still dealing with the assault accusations from the Canadian national team, the Flyers will be led by Sam Ersson all season. I’m not confident he will lead them far.
Tampa Bay and Carolina is a fade for me tonight. Four of their last five matchups resulted in shutouts. Both teams will have new looks this year with Sergachev and Stamkos leaving and Jake Guentzel coming in. Carolina also has a disaster free agency losing Guentzel, Teravainen, Noesen, Kuznetskov, Pesce, Skjei. I’d like to see how these two teams both play tonight before making a play on either.
I’m very surprised to see the Vegas line at -225 against a 2-0 Blues team. This will be a game I try and hit live but may not be able to. I want the team total at three but that is -200 as well.
