Good Morning Everyone,
The trade deadline is upon us and I will be updating this article throughout the day. Last night was what it was. We hit three of four in the round robin for a slight profit/wash depending on your lines. The late add of the Wild helped recoup the juice lost on the Oilers team total. The Leafs and the Oilers can screw off costing us a huge huge night.
Last night the Hurricanes acquired Jake Guentzel from the Penguins. While I love the addition for the Hurricanes, I don’t believe he’s the piece this team needs to win the Cup. The Canes are lacking something leadership wise. They are missing that core piece that has the experience in the Cup finals to take this team to the final level. We have them pre-season to win the Cup so this move won’t make me add anything additional. Getting Freddy Andersen back I believe is the biggest piece. The Pens should continue to make more moves today so we’ll keep an eye on that…
Carolina has now acquired Evgeni Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov was put on weavers by the Caps recently. I believe this will be a good fit for Kuz going to a team that does not need him to be an elite player. Kuz is a 20 goal scorer who can provide more value as a set up player than a pur goalscorer.
Winnipeg Jets acquire Tyler Toffoli. I love toffoli and think he’s a great offensive player. This is a great addition for the Jets who have struggled offensively. I’m adding 1 unit on the Jets to win the Cup +1300.
The Boston Bruins have acquired Pat Maroon. Maroon is a proven winner and a great piece to add on the ice but an even bigger piece to add in the lockerroom. This is the type of piece I believe the Hurricanes needed to add. Boston is in the process of potentially moving Jake Debrusk or Linus Ullmark so it will be interesting to see what Boston’s roster looks like after today’s dead line.
Kyle Okposo is going from the Buffalo Sabres to the Florida Panthers. Okposo is not only a great player but a great guy. I met him a few years ago on Christmas Eve. Him, Bruno Gervais, and Nate Thompson pulled up in a limo outside the restaurant in Brooklyn and he bullshited for a little. Okposo is an underrated seasoned vet who can provide great depth on the wing for the Panthers. I love these two moves for Florida with him and Tarasenko.
