Ghost’s Tuesday 1/7 NHL Breakdown

Andrei Vasielvskiy’s splits at home are Vezina-esque. Connor Hellebuyck is -1000 to win the Vezina right now with a 24-6-2 record and 2.09 GAA. Vasilevskiy is +10,000 with a 16-12-1 record and 2.37 GAA. The Vezina trophy could be up for grabs if anything happens to Hellebuyck injury-wise so feel free to splash Vasilevskiy at those odds. At home, Vas is 11-5 with a 2.12 GAA. The Hurricanes are 9-9-2 on the road averaging less than three goals per game. The Hurricanes started the season 7-3 on the road but 2-8 in their last 10. Tampa Bay is on a four-game losing streak and three of those teams are bottom seven in the league in goals against. The Lightning scored four goals against them in a three-game span (Montreal, San Jose, Anaheim). Carolina comes in as a slight -115 favorite in a matchup they’ve lost four of the last five. I’m not willing to trust the Lightning here coming back from a Western Conference road trip where they frankly were embarrassed. Missing out on all eight possible points on this road trip was costly to a team that has played the least amount of games in the league and still sits in the thick of the Atlantic Division. If I had to play this tonight I would be on Carolina but I don’t see enough of an edge.

The Rangers have dominated the series with the Stars over the past few years winning five of six. I am interested to see how this game goes with the five minute major Matt Rempe took on Miro Heiskanen when these two met on December 20th. The Rangers have been one of the worst teams in the league after their 8-2 start to the season. The Rangers are struggling on all fronts and Igor Shesterkin has underperformed after turning down the Rangers original offer and then signing the biggest AAV contract for a goaltender. Igor is hurt now so Jonathan Quick has been getting the work as of late. Quick has performed well in his career against the Stars franchise but Quick is on his last leg. He has been hit or miss this season either being stellar or giving up 4+. I’m not willing to lay the -175 on the Stars money line to win, but if you want action on this game I would take the Stars team total over 3 at -140.

I like the Oilers tonight on the road against a Boston team who has lost four in a row and five of six. Win or lose the Oilers should find the back of the net and the Oilers team total being three is the draw. It’s a cheap price at -140 for a game the Oilers should dominate offensively. As long as Jeremy Swayman doesn’t play the best game of his career we’re looking at a push at worst. If this game goes Boston’s way it should be high scoring enough that Boston wins in a 4-3 fashion. I don’t expect the Bruins to win this so that should leave us an empty net situation at worst in the third to cash the total.

Columbus and Pittsburgh love to produce goals and Columbus has gotten the better of the Pens in the last two matchups. I expect the Penguins to fix that tonight. Expect Crosby and Malkin to play a part.

This over should have hit last game and it will tonight. I am going back to it and we are getting our units back.

If we smash on pitsburgh and philly we will be going heavy on Vegas at 10:30 so stay tuned.
