NHL Thursday 12/5 Breakdown

Disappointing loss in Dallas last night to take away a potential sweep. I kept debating hitting the game live in the first when they went up 2-0 but should have hedged instead. Dallas looked great for majority of the game and just had some unfortunate luck offensively to not get their third goal. It was a good comeback win by the Kings. Boston has slightly more scoring than I expected but laying off the empty net situation in both games was the right call. I expected the game to be 2-1/3-1 in the third and we had it at 3-2 before the Bruins gave us some insurance for the 4-2 win. Toronto took advantage of the Preds in the third who not have the most blown leads in the league (the Islanders have the most 3rd period blown leads) and we closed that one out. This should set us up to take the Preds tonight and win, so lets see where the slate takes us…

After starting the season setting records, the Winnipeg Jets have lost 7 of their last 10. Nikolaj Ehlers is out for the Jets but this is a great rebound spot for the rest of their offense to get back on track. UPL is coming off a blown 4-0 lead to the Avs two nights ago, a game where we won close to 16 units on it, and it shouldn’t get any easier for him tonight. If he doesn’t start we are in even better shape. The lines on this game are strongly in our favor. If this matchup was two weeks ago the Jets team total probably comes in at 3.5 -155. Tonight we get 2.5 and -190 and I am playing it. I expect a same type of game from Winnipeg that I did from Colorado the other night except I expect Winnipeg to score in the first. Winnipeg is a cup contending team and as I’ve stated in an earlier article, we are in a time of the season where teams regress or pick up form the slow starts. Winnipeg is a team that has slowed down but that is completely normal. No team can sustain the 15-1 start they broke out to. Winnipeg still has a top 5 defense, top 5 offense, and the current favorite to win the Vezina Trophy. Tonight will be a heavy night of units between NHL and NFL and it starts here with Winnipeg.

Carolina and COlorado are usually high scoring games but I don’t love playing 6.5 totals. Feel free to add this to your personal plays tonight but I like others.

PLAY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK: I am playing Nashville tonight expecting them to rebound from the Toronto loss last night against a Montreal team that is giving up 3.72 goals per game. If the Predators lose tonight’s game don’t be surprised if Andrew Burnette is the next coach to lose his job. The Preds are a complete mess and the biggest disappointment on the season. They need this game more than any other game they’ve probably played this season.

I can’t stop betting against Philly and I can’t stop losing. So lets do it again tonight.

The Sharks have won three in a row and are coming off a win against the Capitals that we dubbed the trap of the night. This should set them up for a tremendous let down tonight and a matchup against the Lightning who have beat them in 8 of the last 9 matchups has us licking our chops. Nikita Kucherov will be out so we need to temper our expectations but I still believe this is a game the Lightning run rampant. They are off again until Sunday so the Lightning have nothing to hold back for. Even without Kucherov the Lightning are still filled with talent from top to bottom and are second best in the league in goals per game. Mackenzie Blackwood is a gas can and his record and 2.94 GAA will not last throughout the season. If you have any reservations making a play this big with Kucherov out feel free to lower the units but this is my favorite play of the night.
